Rickie Ray Wainscott, 72, of East Enterprise, IN, passed away on Thursday, April 4th, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Edgewood Hospital. Rickie was born in Milan, IN on January 30, 1952, a son of the late Wanda Marie (Gulley) Wainscott and Marion W. “Bill” Wainscott. He was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1970. Shortly after graduation, he began work in the maintenance department at the Indiana Michigan Power plant in Lawrenceburg, IN. Rick worked there for over 37 years until his retirement in 2007. Rick had a wide array of interests and hobbies. He had an admiration for classic BMW motorcycles and had collected and expertly restored several bikes over the years. Rick was a skilled mechanic and also restored vintage tractors and Jeeps. Rick also enjoyed collecting guns and had acquired many unique firearms. His other interests included antiques, music, flying, history, religion and many other topics he was always ready to have an engaging conversation about. Rick was known for his dry wit and sense of humor. He was a beloved dad, grandpa, brother, cousin, and good friend to many.

John R. Vest, Jr., 83, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Thursday, April 11th, 2024 at The Waters of Rising Sun. John was born in Cincinnati, OH on May 11, 1940, a son of the late Viola (Abbott) Vest and John R. Vest, Sr. He was a 1958 graduate of Taylor High School in Cleves, OH. John married Dinah L. (Mazgay) Vest on May 26, 1961. John and Dinah were married for nearly 63 years until his passing. He was employed as an electrician at Monsanto in Addyston, OH., for over 30 years. John also worked for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. John attended the Trinity Christian Center in Lawrenceburg, IN. John was very athletic throughout his life, playing baseball in high school and for the Monsanto baseball team. In 1961 he tried out for and was signed by the Cincinnati Reds. But in an era when ball players made very little money and with a young family to support, he decided it wasn’t the best option for him at the time. His love for sports was something he passed down to his grandchildren. John was also talented at leather tooling and it was a pastime he enjoyed very much.
Martha Lucille (McNeely) Turner, 98, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Friday, April 12th, 2024, at the Ridgewood Health Campus in Lawrenceburg, IN.
Patricia Sue (Jackson) Gossett Helton, 80, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024 at The Willows of Greensburg. Patricia was born in Dearborn County, IN on February 21, 1944, a daughter of the late Irene (Morehead) Jackson and Arthur Jackson. She grew up in the Aurora community and was a graduate of Aurora High School, Class of 1962. Patricia married Hershell D. Gossett on August 30, 1963. Three children were born into this union: Cathy, Hershell D. II, and John. Hershell unexpectedly passed on June 8, 1994. Patricia’s family expanded when she married Richard L. Helton on May 26, 2007. Patricia and Richard were married for nearly 17 years until her passing. Patricia began work as a cook and baker at the Aurora High School. She later went on to be head cook and cafeteria supervisor at South Dearborn High School for over 25 years. Patricia was a woman of faith and a devoted member of the Rising Sun First Baptist Church where she assisted with vacation bible school, was a Sunday school teacher, and helped out wherever she was needed. She was also a Girl Scout leader for several years. She loved gardening and tending to her flowers. Patricia had a true passion for travel and was amazingly able to visit all 50 states plus 32 countries. Spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled her heart with joy.
