WIth the Devils playing the Canes in a short while, let’s take a look into how the Devils, looking to get on the path to perennial playoff contender, are sort of in the same place the Canes were several years ago. Can NJ make the same jump Carolina did?

Timo Meier has had a disappointing season by all metrics, but he has been mostly fantastic over the last 10 games, trying to keep this team afloat when it seems like so many want to just let it sink.

The numbers say that Jake Allen is playing out of his mind right now for New Jersey. But they also say that regression is due at some point. But to go on a run, NJ needs him to be regression-proof for a little longer.

The Devils have been winning more often in the latter stages of March, and some of them have been despite getting crushed in possession and expected goals. That cannot continue if they want to keep winning.

As the season winds down, we will be grumbling a lot about how this team collapsed and disappointed this season. Here are a couple of charts that really showcase the decline over the last month.

With two games left in the season, the Devils have a couple of options left. They can play hard and try to spoil things for their opponents, who have playoff aspirations. Or, they can give more minutes to the young kids to see what they can do.

The 2023-24 New Jersey Devils regular season is over. The Devils failed to make the playoffs, making the season a failure. Nevertheless, the writers of All About the Jersey got together for the annual tradition of giving out awards for this season - for better or worse.

Tom Fitzgerald has a tough job this offseason: to retool this roster to make it competitive next season while not mortgaging the bright future that this franchise still has. It will be stressful for him, but if he wants to keep this job for much longer, he needs to figure it out.

Last year, the Devils had several 20-goal scorers at 5 on 5. This year? Not so much. That drop in 5v5 scoring was fairly substantial and needs to be addressed next year.

The Devils never really reached their potential this past season, and I think it’s safe to say they never really reached their potential. However, there were stretches where they played fairly well, and other stretches where they were terrible.
