Nearly three years after a Central Texas woman died following an IV treatment at a med spa, the investigation reached a major milestone. October 2023: Jenifer Cleveland died following an IV treatment at “The Luxe MedSpa” in Wortham, TX. Investigators said the owner of the med spa, Amber Johnson administered the IV and did not have a medical license. Frisco doctor Michael Gallagher served as the medical director for The Luxe MedSpa. July 2026: This week, Johnson and Gallagher were arraigned in connection with the case. Johnson faces 14 counts. Felony murder, manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, Counts 4-12: Delivery of a Dangerous Drug, Ct 13: Practicing Medicine without a License, Count14: Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence. Gallagher faces 25 counts: Felony murder, manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, Counts 4-12: Delivery of a Dangerous Drug, Ct 13: Practicing Medicine without a License, Counts 14-25: Practicing Medicine in Violation of the Texas Occupations Code. The Texas Medical Board says it temporarily suspended Gallagher’s medical license after determining he had been arrested for criminally negligent homicide related to the death of one patient. The suspension remains in effect pending further action by the board. NBC 5 reached out to attorneys representing both defendants. Gallagher’s attorney, Scott Palmer out of Dallas provided the following statement: “Jennifer Cleveland’s death was an unnecessary tragedy. The evidence is that this tragedy was at the hands of Amber Johnson and only Amber Johnson. Amber Johnson pursued a course of lies and deceit to go around Dr. Gallagher, and her subsequent efforts to cover up her actions made it impossible for any reasonable person, such as Dr. Gallagher, to know what she was doing. Most of these charges are based on the theory that he was a “party” to Amber Johnson’s acts. We hotly dispute that theory and believe she acted alone and intentionally left him in the dark. If he had known what she was doing, he would have absolutely intervened and stopped her.”
