The Riverhead Charter School is in the final stages of acquiring a 13.7-acre parcel of land located at 4314 Middle Country Road in Calverton to construct a new high school, according to a news release.

Lawrence Brown Jr., 26, of Riverhead was indicted Monday for criminal possession of a weapon and related felony charges following a joint investigation by the Southampton Town Police Detective Division and several East End law enforcement agencies.

In somber recognition of the events 23 years ago on September 11, 2001, residents across the North Fork gathered to honor those lost in the attacks and their aftermath. John Bittrolff, the 51-year-old Manorville carpenter who was found guilty of murdering two women and dumping their bodies in the woods more than 20 years ago, is requesting his case be reviewed after the alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann was charged for a third homicide that Mr. Bittrolff had been suspected of being linked to, according to a Newsday report.

The well-known — and frequently photographed — heart-shaped Love Lane sign in Mattituck is in need of a makeover, and Jim Gorman, the craftsman behind it, is in the midst of restoring his 2009 creation to its original glory.
