The host committee for FIFA men's World Cup matches this summer announced a direct bus service to Boston Stadium in Foxborough, which will cost more than MBTA train service to the stadium.

Locals are accustomed to the T’s dank conditions. But as global soccer fans make their way to Boston for the World Cup, many will come from cities with clean, state-of-the-art public transit — and may be surprised at the MBTA’s less-than-sparkling, dungeon-like spaces.

Massport officials say the pilot program is the first of its kind in the country. After checking in in Framingham, passengers will take a secure bus directly to the terminal at Logan.

The Kraft Group has been secretive about its financial arrangements related to the World Cup, including whether it would help pay for the Foxborough train station overhaul.

For the MBTA, moving more than 19,000 people to and from Foxborough for the World Cup on Saturday was in many ways a big success. But the long lines to board trains, and the wait for a ride home after midnight felt chaotic to some.

After a sometimes chaotic departure from the stadium Saturday night, the T said it will beef up signage directing people from the stadium to the train, and revise messages on signs “to provide a clearer and more intuitive path for customers traveling to and from the station.”
