MADISON HEIGHTS — When Mary Curry, the general manager at Charlie’s Restaurant in Madison Heights, received a text from one of her servers, she thought it would be small talk about baseball. Instead, it was about a harrowing situation that had just unfolded at the diner.

LANSING/METRO DETROIT — A bipartisan proposal working its way through the state Legislature aims to help first responders who need treatment for psychological trauma.

MADISON HEIGHTS — The budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year was adopted by a unanimous vote of the Madison Heights City Council on May 11.

FARMINGTON HILLS — A growing series of crafting classes in Hazel Park has spread to Clawson, Farmington Hills and soon Armada, attracting people of all ages to enjoy evenings painting, making crushed glass, crocheting, and even baking sourdough bread.

HAZEL PARK — Last month, the Hazel Park City Council voted unanimously to begin laying the groundwork for the city’s first social district — a designated zone with a commons area where people 21 and older can enjoy alcoholic beverages outside using special containers.

HAZEL PARK — An award-winning author/playwright who grew up in Hazel Park is set to finish his cozy mystery series with what he believes could be his last book, and the public is invited to meet him at an upcoming event.

HAZEL PARK — The Hazel Park District Library is home to 3D printers that can create all sorts of items on request. The service that will be highlighted during special workshops planned for this year’s summer reading program.
