Westby Area High School will hold its graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 23, at 11 a.m. in the district’s fieldhouse. Morgan McClurg is the valedictorian, with Ava Berg serving as salutatorian. Class officers include President Jack Iverson and Vice President Elizabeth Curtis.

The Viroqua High School National Honor Society welcomed new members during the Viroqua Lions Club 64th annual Honors Program on May 6, held in the high school gymnasium where seniors also received scholarships and various awards were presented.

Jeremiah M. Rusk, born in 1830, was Wisconsin’s 15th governor and the first U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Settling in Vernon County in 1853, he was a tavern owner, farmer, sheriff, Civil War officer, congressman, and governor who played significant roles in state and national history.

Senator Tammy Baldwin toured the new Viroqua Fire Station built with $9.5 million in funding, including federal, city, and township contributions, highlighting the facility’s modern design aimed at improving firefighter safety and community service.

Musician and record producer Butch Vig, best known as the drummer and co-producer of the band Garbage and the producer of Nirvana's album Nevermind, was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin.

Children and families can enjoy outdoor activities and learn about trout fishing at Coon Creek Trout Fest in Coon Valley on June 20, featuring fishing, presentations, games, and food with free admission from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park and the Legion Hall.
