Praper founder Pratham Jindal started his journey by earning Rs 2,500 per month from video editing projects. Now, he draws a salary of Rs 2 lakh per month and even bought his first home worth Rs 1.4 crore in Chandigarh.

The tech entrepreneur was responding to a post about research suggesting that spending time in forests may strengthen the body's natural immune defenses.

'My father, who'd spent a small fortune on that education, took one look at my starting salary and went quiet,' retired banker Ajay Nanavati recalled. At the time he had just returned to India after studying chemical engineering in the US.

The debate comes at a time when layoffs have affected employees across several global technology and financial firms. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has clarified that no final decision has yet been taken on imposing MDR and that the matter would be considered by the NPCI-led UPI and Services Steering Committee after the legislation becomes law.

The entrepreneur said the decision was never primarily about finances. 'When I lived in Dubai, I paid no income tax, and earned more there than I did after I got my green card and first job in the US,' he said.

'Many of the women I had spoken to had really high expectations of how much their husbands should earn,' Vikas Lohtia said. But during his first conversation with his now fiancée, he told her that he earns half of what he actually does. 'And it did not put her off,' he said.
