The Senior Citizens and the Next Generation will have their monthly meeting Tuesday, April 14. Bingo is the event for the day, so participants are asked to bring an inexpensive gift as a prize. Held in the activity building of Brookport's First Baptist Church on Pell Road, doors will open at 9:30 a.m. with a short business meeting at 10 a.m. Bingo will follow with a potluck meal afterwards. It is being held in the Harry Statham Gym on Saturday, May 30, from noon until 5 p.m. Your choice of a fried catfish or spaghetti dinner plus two sides, dessert and a drink all for $15. With four aldermen present, quorum was met as Mayor Rance Phillips presided over the Brookport City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 12. Carmen Bates and Debbie Workman were absent.
There are only a few people on my birthday list. Summer Randolph celebrates May 23 and Joe Jenkins, Sean Pegram and Alberta Thompson on May 25. Happy birthday to you all and many happy returns.
I hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day. Usually, there are cookouts and family get-togethers. The weather may not have cooperated for everyone, especially if outdoor activities were planned.
It was a nice rain Monday morning, June 1, enough that my back yard was flooded. I'm sure the trees appreciated it. I keep hearing on the news that our area is behind in rainfall about 5 inches, making us in a drought of sorts. There is more rain in the forecast, so maybe we will catch up.
