Police shut down an alleged illegal gambling operation at an Essex Junction home following complaints from neighbors, with the homeowner avoiding charges by completing a restorative justice program.

Students are scheduled to release the trout Tuesday into a stream that eventually flows into the Huntington River, where the fish will continue their life cycle in the wild.

"When you think of space, you think of spacecraft, you think of launch vehicles. Most people don't think of Vermont, of these chips that are made right here," Hall said.

"Often times, school meals are the most important meals for kids. And when schools out, school meals are still in," La Vacca said.

"This particularly affects states like Vermont because we do mail all the ballots for the November election to active registered voters," Copeland Hanzas said.

"The police are taking every appropriate action to investigate this incident," the Franklin County State's Attorney said. He declined to comment further, citing the early stage of the investigation.

Officials said the deputies worked with northern New York wildlife rehabilitator Tara Fuller, who took custody of the hawk and arranged for it to receive specialized care.

With support from the Lake Placid Rotary Foundation, the family has begun raising money to create the Kendall Hartson Lemay Dog Park in Au Sable Forks, a community Kendall called home.
