Towns and cities in Vermont have never had the authority to regulate farms in the state, but now that's on track to change.

Authorities said they found him hiding in a neighbor's home.

Violet Nichols, superintendent of the South Burlington School District, has held the role since 2022, but after a year of hearing feedback from its members, the union said it’s time for new leadership.

“The passage of a law that makes it so that now landlords can’t discriminate against immigrants," said Olga Cruz, an immigrant from Mexico.

"Even if we're not worried about your immigration status, I think we should read it so that we're familiar," Clark said.

Mayor Emma Mulvaney Stanak said the work is aimed at meeting people's basic needs in the community, in hopes of preventing disruptive behaviors.

"We really want to stress that extreme heat can make anyone sick, and it is so critical to act fast," said Jennifer Costa, communications director for Red Cross of New England.
