Employee who defrauded Ulster Bank to be sentenced in Belfast

A Co Antrim man who admitted defrauding the Ulster Bank whilst an employee will be sentenced for the offence later this year.Mark Clements appeared in the dock of Belfast Crown Court today, where he was charged with a single offence of fraud by abuse of position.He was charged that between July 25, 2013 and October 8, 2015 whilst occupying a position in which he was expected to safeguard the financial interests of his employer, Ulster Bank, he dishonestly abused that position by creating a false credit to a test account then withdrew cash he was not entitled to.From Townhead Street in Ballymoney, the 52-year old was then asked to enter a plea to the charge and he replied “guilty.”Following this, Clements’ barrister confirmed to Judge Philip Gilpin that he would be seeking a pre-sentence report.The judge then addressed Clements and told him he would be sentenced on September 1.He added: “Between now and then, the Probation Board are going to want to talk to you in order that they can prepare their report.“It’s important when they come and talk to you that you engage with them.”The hearing concluded when Clements was released from the dock.
