Caroline Val is a Miami-based journalist who works as a producer at WPLG Local 10 News. In addition to New Times , her work has appeared in Business Insider Teen Vogue . A graduate of the University of Miami, she earned a bachelor's degree in journalism with minors in political science and French. Her love of South Florida's alternative culture scene runs deep, and she's always open to exploring new stories.

She has written for publications such as EDM Sauce and EDMTunes and served as the assistant director for the entertainment section of FIU's school publication, PantherNow. She has a master's in English writing and rhetoric. She considers herself to be a major music enthusiast and enjoys writing about new music, the latest events, and overall entertainment.

If you've visited a Hard Rock Cafe anywhere in the world, then you know to expect. But, that said, the Bayside location is weirder than most. Take for example the domed ceiling mural involving multicultural cherubs, tropical foliage, and psychedelically geometric Egyptian spacemen with glowing groins. Yeah, trippy.

Hidden in Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades complex, LauderAle is a dog-friendly, kid-friendly and (yes) monkey-friendly brewery with a small-town feel. The beers made here carry Florida-fresh notes of lemon, orange, and pineapple. That's not to say LauderAle only brews fruited sours; here you'll also find porters, IPAs, even a Belgian tripel whose 9.2 percent ABV will make your toes curl. The brewery hosts food trucks nightly on a rotating basis, and on weekends there's live music. Dogs are welcomed with fresh water and cookies. And the monkeys? Well, you can't bring your own, but there's a colony of vervets that hang out in the trees right behind the brewery. LauderAle even hosts fundraisers to make sure the primates are taken care of.
