One got away, and the rest came to play. ULM baseball let the Northwestern State Demons make a single run before bringing its A-game for a 9-2 win over its in-state opponent. A solid defense from ULM (5-4) and some weak at-bats from NSU (2-7) led to a Warhawk win last Tuesday.

As the first week of intramural softball action comes to an end, it’s time to highlight some teams to watch this season.

Answer: It’s been really a historic season in a lot of ways. It’s our first year as a staff, and we had a lot of new faces at ULM. More than anything, [I have] a lot of gratitude to the community, our players, for the time and effort put into the season that we had. We had great support all year. Our players really worked hard all season. I’m just really thankful that they were able to see some success.

Faye Webster’s latest album, “Underdressed at the Symphony,” draws inspiration from previous works while maturing her sound. Relying less on the twang of a slide guitar and more on rock-influenced piano, Webster’s most recent work focuses on love and heartbreak while never taking itself too seriously.

ULM beach volleyball broke even during Friday’s matches of the ULM Bayou Bash with a win against in-state opponent McNeese and a loss to Missouri State. The Warhawks (4-6; 0-1 Sun Belt Conference) swept the Cowgirls (1-11), winning every set. Kaylie Beck and Avery Hunter’s game-clinching 21-17, 21-12 victory meant the other two matches didn’t need a winner. Later, ULM faced Missouri State (13-2) for the second time this season, yet the Warhawks suffered the same 3-2 loss. After splitting matches 2-2, Kaitlyn Beck and Claire Williamson won set one but dropped set two. A scoring run by the Bears landed them at 15 points and ended ULM’s victory run on Friday.

After three weeks of play, intramural softball finally concluded the regular season. Teams played only five games before the playoffs, so one could expect a handful of winless and undefeated squads. Even though ULM football’s home opener against Jackson State remains over 100 days away, Malone Stadium is anything but quiet. Since March 11, head coach Bryant Vincent has been preparing for the 2024 season. Preparation includes attending practices, playing a scrimmage and participating in the yearly spring game. To Vincent and his team, winning in the fall starts well in advance.

After losing the series against the Ragin’ Cajuns, ULM baseball showed its resilience by opening the series against Texas State with a 7-5 win. Four Warhawks tallied two or more hits, and runs from six different players paved the way for ULM (16-17; 4-9 Sun Belt Conference) to mount a comeback in the sixth inning.

ULM baseball hosted I-20 rival LA Tech on Tuesday as part of Super Warhawk Week. Despite the energy of the week, rare contact with the ball hampered the Warhawks’ scoring, leading to their 6-2 loss.
