When the NHL returned from its Christmas Break last year, there were eight games played on 12/27. Six of those eight games went over the total. The games averaged 7.4 goals and none finished with less than five. With both teams hungry to get back on track with a victory, I feel this one should finish with at least six. Minnesota averages three goals, while Winnipeg averages 2.91. Admittedly, the Wild are a stingy team but the Jets are allowing more than three gpg. Prior to its 2-game skid, Minnesota had scored five goals in three straight games. Go with the over 5.5
Both these teams have been playing well. Off a 4-3 (S/O) win at Vancouver, the Kraken are 6-1 their past seven. They earned points in all seven of those games. The Flames lost 4-3 against Nashville last game but are still 3-1 their past four and 5-2 their past seven. Note that Calgary is 4-0 the past four times it was coming off a loss. The Nashville result notwithstanding, the Flames are a much stronger team on home ice. They're 12-6-2 at home compared to 6-13-2 on the road. Knowing they hit the road after this game, look for the Flames to bounce back and take care of business on home ice.

This O/U line is high -- but likely not high enough. High Point just scored 83 against Wisconsin, allowing 82. The Panthers averaged a whopping 93.8 ppg in the regular season. They've played 34 games and they scored more than 70 every time. Now the Panthers take on an Arkansas team which also averaged more than 90 ppg during the season. With much on the line, there should be a playoff-like atmosphere for this one. I'm expecting goals to prove hard to come by. The last meeting had a final score of 4-0, Sorokin recording the shutout for the Islanders. Speaking of shutouts, the last time that the Isles were off consecutive losses, they responded with a 1-0 victory. The previous time they were off b2b defeats, the Isles bounced back with a 2-1 win. Let's go with the under.
This will be the 100th time that Crosby and Ovechkin will have faced each other, the 75th meeting in the regular season. In the previous 74 regular season games, Crosby has 97 points (35 goals, 62 assists) for 97 points while Ovechkin has 70 points (38 goals, 32 assists). The Penguins are 43-27-4 in those 74 regular-season meetings. Washington is 31-33-10.
The Avalanche are listed as heavy favorites on the money-line. As a result, we're able to get an extra +1.5 goals with the Kings on the puck-line, without breaking the bank. I feel that's where the value lies in this game. Yes, the Avs are very strong, particularly on home ice. However, they've got all the pressure on them. Expected to lose, the Kings have no pressure at all. They've been stronger on the road all season.
