Tesla says it’s unclear when it will be able to roll out its self-driving taxis. The company said with its second-quarter results that deployment of the Robotaxi, a self-driving electric model expected to have no steering wheel or pedals, depends on technological advancements and getting the nod from regulators. The company is “working vigorously” on the program because of its “outsized potential value,” Tesla said.

Tesla said the picture is improving on demand for battery-powered cars. Tesla said EVs were taking market share from gas-powered cars. Shares of Tesla slid more than 2% in extended-hours trading after the EV maker reported per-share earnings for the second quarter that fell short of analysts estimates.

Tesla will wait until after the U.S. election before investing a lot into a new facility in Mexico, Chief Executive Elon Musk said. Musk, who recently endorsed former President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign, said on a call with analysts that the fate of the company’s previously-announced manufacturing plant in Mexico would depend on the outcome of the November contest. Trump has said he would impose strict tariffs on vehicles produced in Mexico, in which case it would “not make sense to invest a lot in Mexico,” Musk said.

Lucid Group's shares rallied in extended-hours trading Monday, after the electric-car maker's revenue surged ahead of Wall Street’s expectations and the company secured another tranche of funding. Jeep’s parent company has pressed pause on making two of its top-selling U.S. models. Factories temporarily stopped producing the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee sport-utility vehicles in the past week, people familiar with the matter said. In a statement, Jeep’s parent, Stellantis late Wednesday confirmed “production adjustments” at two Detroit assembly plants that make the Grand Cherokee, and another factory in Toledo, Ohio, where the Wrangler is produced.
