The success that coalition showed in electing two Democratic candidates who challenged more moderate Democrats backed by the party’s blue chip leaders will almost certainly have ramifications in the coming years.

The sheer size of Oregon’s unaffiliated voter group – 1.16 million people, compared to just 988,000 Democrats and 737,000 Republicans – means the improvement their turnout translated into an additional 65,000 ballots cast.
