WARRENVILLE — Bob Simmons grew up in Staten Island as the son of a backyard mechanic in the village of Annadale, so domestic cars were a part of the household surroundings since the 1940s. Today they're still a major part of the scenery at his home, although most of the current ones are about 10 inches long.

AIKEN — The 2026-27 academic year is officially underway in another local school, with Town Creek Christian Academy having had its first day of classes Aug. 17, with King Roar, the school's mascot, on duty to help welcome incoming traffic.
Aiken High had its 2026 football opener Aug. 20, playing host to Lakeside (of Evans, Georgia), and overcame a slow start (with a temperature of about 90 degrees at kickoff) to roll to a 31-7 victory.

AIKEN — Local life and statewide public media were topics of conversation Aug. 27, with representatives of South Carolina ETV and Public Radio visiting Aiken County Public Library for an earful on local problems, progress and priorities.
The combination of heat and humidity has forced some local schools' football programs to adjust their practice schedules and locations. These scenes are from Aiken High, around 7-7:30 a.m. Sept. 1.
Fox Creek Middle School welcomed Highland Springs Sept. 1 for an informal pre-season contest — the home team's first-ever action on its home turf (Fox Creek High's field). The visitors prevailed 26-12.
