1. All that’s left on Brunot Island now is a power station that’s occasionally powered up to provide some backup for our electric grid. The island was named for Dr. Felix Brunot who lived there with his family in the late 1700s and once hosted Meriwether Lewis before he set out on his namesake expedition with William Clark. In the early 1900s, the island was also home to a racetrack where well-known drivers of the time, including Louis Chevrolet, took a few spins.
