The 33rd Annual United Way Golf Tournament for Toombs, Montgomery and Wheeler counties was held on Thursday, May 21st hosted by the Swainsboro Country Club. Eighteen holes of sunny and thankfully a little breezy weather for nine teams in the morning rounds and sixteen teams in the afternoon. Participants were treated to a 50/50 golf ball drop, long drive contests for ladies and men and closest to the pin on the four Par 3 holes. All teams were flighted by their scratch scores and the winning team of Greg Johnson, Walter Worthen, Maurice Brown and Randy Floyd succeeded with a total of 54 strokes.
The Toombs County High School golf teams wrapped up their seasons this past week by competing in the GHSA Class A-Division I State Tournament at Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course in Elberton, with the Bulldogs delivering a historic performance on the boys’ side.
