A McAllen restaurant known for its huge mariscos menu is charting a course for San Antonio. La Costa Grill is planning a new location, its first outside the Rio Grande Valley, at the Landmark North development at 5546 N Loop 1604 W #150.La Costa offers a wide selection of Mexican-style seafood dishes, including shrimp aguachile, salmon ceviche, zarandeado octopus, whole huachinango (red snapper), and arroz a la tumbada, a famous fish soup from Veracruz. A few American dishes, like oysters Rockefeller and salmon jalapeño poppers, round out the oceanic offerings. The restaurant also dishes out tacos, queso fundido, and several steaks, including a tomahawk big enough to serve two guests. The dessert menu veers into international waters with Southern cornbread topped with ice cream, crepes, churros, and Filipino-style fried banana rolls.Assumably, La Costa will also have a full liquor license. The McAllen location pours various domestic and imported beers and a selection of cocktails, none of which appear to be margaritas. There is, however, something called a Sinatra Splash, which may or may not contain the singer's beloved Jack Daniel's.McAllen businessman Edgar Soberon opened La Costa Grill in 2015. Since then, he has debuted two locations of sibling restaurant Mariscos La Costa in Palmhurst and San Juan, Texas. The menus similarly focus on seafood with a slightly greater emphasis on fried foods.Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation records mark January 2026 for the buildout's end. So far, the business has not officially announced the location.
