Action for the River Kennet (ARK) is really excited to be part of the Thames Catchment Community Eels Project, a multi-partner project, working with amongst others the Zoological Society of London and Thames Rivers Trust. The project, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, aims to help conserve the European Eel which used to make up 50% of the fish biomass in our rivers but is now critically endangered.

Carvers Hill Estate Vineyard & Winery is an eminent enterprise producing world-class wine in Wiltshire, located in the idyllic conservation area of the North Wessex Downs. Nestled just outside Shalbourne village, near Hungerford, the vineyard and state-of-the-art winery are enhanced by an HMRC approved, professional on-site fine wine bonded storage facility dedicated to private client storage. The build is nearing completion and will open in September 2026.

Historian David Peacock presented a fascinating and immaculately researched talk on cloth-making in Berkshire during the Tudor period when the industry dominated the national economy and export market. Reading and Newbury were among the leading centres of cloth production in Berkshire. The two most important cloths were the broadcloth and the kersey and by the sixteenth century these were the most important English exports.

I've only been to two FA Cup Finals: both replays; and both involving Manchester United winning after previous drawn matches that they should have lost. In 1983 I saw them beat Brighton 4-0 and, in 1990, Crystal Palace 1-0. The fact that (a) I've never liked Man Utd and (b) the people who'd taken me to the games were die-hard fans of the losing clubs made the journeys back to London quite long ones.

CHAIN of Hungerford is a charity run entirely by volunteers and it is always looking for volunteer drivers. On average CHAIN makes seventy trips a month taking people to medical appointments. The charity also provides other transport assistance for local residents.
