FAIRMONT--The Fairmont City Council revisited conversation about a property at 1524 Albion Avenue during its meeting on Monday.

FAIRMONT-- The Fairmont City Council held a workshop on Monday afternoon that went over roles and responsibilities with members of the League of Minnesota Cities (LMC). Council members present spent a portion of the time talking about communication, best practices and proper procedure.

FAIRMONT-- The Fairmont City Council held a second work session on Wednesday to discuss the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) funds. At the first, held on July 16, the council indicated that it would like to spend the majority of the funds on a large, community building project and a portion on future lake projects. At the meeting this week, it attempted to talk about more specifics on the large project.

FAIRMONT-- A third Fairmont City Council work session for this week that took place on Thursday evening focused on city initiatives and future planning. While much was talked about, extra time was spent talking about issues with blight, a park plan and a needs analysis for facilities.

SHERBURN-- The new K-12 Martin County West (MCW) school building in Sherburn has taken shape and is on track. The building, which had its groundbreaking in May of 2025, is expected to be occupied for the 2027-28 school year.

FAIRMONT-- On Saturday members of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) were in Fairmont to do Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) road check inspections on watercraft and trailers that passed by their set up at Gomsrud Park.

FAIRMONT-- The Martin County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday heard information from County Engineer Kevin Peyman to discuss whether or not the county wants to continue to collect wheelage tax.

Sitting in the Fairmont City Council work sessions last week, I had feelings of Deja Vu. Haven't we been here before? Are we not repeating conversations that have already taken place?

FAIRMONT-- After several months of work and about a year of planning, the Martin County Courthouse murals are repaired, nearly restored and back where they belong in the third floor dome.
