The frontal system that has been causing all the rain in the Midwest and the mid-Atlantic is forecast to sink south and offshore of the East Coast.

An upper-level disturbance that produced strong thunderstorms over North Carolina will merge with a stalled front offshore of the Southeast . A broad bulge – a non-tropical low-pressure system called a frontal wave – is forecast to develop along the front.

Watching a weak disturbance off the SE but very low chances

A low-pressure system – technically called a frontal wave – has formed on schedule along the cold front that stalled offshore of the Carolinas. You see it in the satellite picture as a bulge along the front. There's clearly some circulation with the system.

The SE disturbance not likely to develop

The deep tropics from the Caribbean across the Atlantic to Africa are about as hostile to tropical development as you're ever going to see during a hurricane season.

Colorado State University is out with their updated forecast for this hurricane season. Dr. Phil Klotzbach and the team are predicting even fewer storms than they were in April and June.

The official word from the National Hurricane Center is that no tropical development is expected in the Atlantic, the Caribbean, or the Gulf for at least the next week. If you follow these things, however, you've probably seen chatter about the models showing a system developing in the Gulf over the weekend or early next week.
