Today has been another of those days in which President Trump has announced a “deal” with Iran to stop the war. It's 95% complete, one cheerleader said, except for the parts about the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear program. And by noon, it was obvious that there was no “deal.”
This week has been another round of “Iran: Groundhog Day.” It started with Trump teasing an agreement on social media last weekend and has ended with the usual nothing. But this is not an ending. The ending must include opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and there's no indication that that is likely to happen. Among the assurances are that the agreement is 95% completed except for the Strait and the nuclear program and that it's all set to go except for approval by Trump and the Iranian government.
