A handful of theater productions are set to hit the stage in the coming weeks and months. There will also be a unique opportunity in May for high schoolers to test their acting and singing skills for a rendition of a classic musical.

The Turlock Unified School District’s annual Scholar and Staff Recognition Event took place Wednesday at Pitman High School. Those recognized included the TUSD Volunteer of the Year, Superintendent’s Scholar Senate, Every Student Succeeding, Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments Maximum Score, State Seal of Biliteracy, Character Recognition for Scholars and Staff, Employees Making a Difference and Rotary Teacher Recognition.

Turlock High senior Peter Wilson pulled out a victory in 10-point overtime against Akhil Patel of Enochs (Modesto) on Tuesday afternoon in the semifinal round of the Central California Athletic League singles tournament to advance to his third consecutive league singles final. He is slated to face Downey’s Brady Black in the title match at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Modesto Junior College courts.

Hilmar High head track and field coach Clement Labrouche has seen a lot in his over three decades involved in the sport. It wasn’t until Saturday that he saw what he considered to be “the greatest individual performance I’ve ever seen.’

It’s not often that elementary school students get their work published. Thanks to the Salvation Turlock Corp. in collaboration with StudenTreasures Publishing, 16 local students were afforded that opportunity.
