The St. Edward’s philosophy department hosted the latest event in their “Food and Philosophy” speaker series with a guest lecture from a professor from Austin Community College. Linda Mackey, Ph. D, led the talk, titled “What Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement Teach Us about Philosophy.” It was centered around the intercultural dialogues found within the teachings of Dr. King Jr. and modern applications of them.

On March 17, the streaming service Max released a new striking documentary. The show “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” features former child stars and employees speaking up about their experience working with Nickelodeon and the abusive environment on sets. The show instantly caught my attention, as I have heard many things in the past that have nodded to Nickelodeon’s abusive work environment. For example, enabling the toxic management tactics of Nickelodeon’s successful producer, Dan Schneider.
In early March, the Pride flag in Meadows Coffeehouse was reinstalled as a response to St. Edward’s University student and community concerns. In addition to the reinstallation, the Office of Student Belonging and Inclusive Excellence (OSBIE) works to continue adding more visible symbols of inclusion and implementing initiatives that improve and increase representation.
Forensic science majors are expressing concerns and looking into alternative education paths after St. Edward’s University upper administration rescinded the program’s accreditation application.
