Thousands of Texans felt uneasy late Monday night after feeling their houses shake, leaving many to wonder what they had just experienced. At around 10:40 pm on Monday, July 22, 2024, several members of communities across the Lone Star State took to social media, posting statuses in several local groups asking if anyone else felt their homes shaking. The quake occurred near Snyder, Texas, at 10:38 Monday night.

Paris Officers met with a victim on Tuesday in the 2500 block of Bonham St. The victim said a white male named “Billy” had assaulted him. While en route to the incident, a Lamar County Deputy made contact with Billy Wayne Gray, 46, in the 2100 block of Bonham St. Paris Police officers arrived and took control of the identified suspect, Gray. The victim said he had been at the park all day and that Gray had also been there. The victim said their only contact was when Gray asked for a cigarette. The victim did not have one. Later, the victim had fallen asleep on a park bench at about 9:00 pm and had awakened to Gray, striking him in his head and mouth with his fist and telling him he would kill him. Gray also took the victim's cane, which he used to strike the victim in the back and head. The victim escaped from Gray and got into his vehicle, where he called the police. The victim had multiple visible injuries, including tooth loss. Gray had marks on his hands indicative of assaulting someone. Police took Gray into custody and charged him with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Felony. They booked him without incident.

The new Jasper High School volleyball and track coach is the victim of a fatal shooting in San Antonio. Superintendent John Seybold told KFDM/Fox 4 News that Ayden Rose Burt, 28, was attending the Texas High School Coaches Association coaching school with other staff members from Jasper ISD. Seybold says Burt was attending an event sponsored by a vendor. San Antonio's WOAI/KABB reported someone shot her at the Smoke Skybar on East Crockett Street near Houston Street. She was sitting on the top patio of the bar with her back to Interstate 37 when she was struck by a bullet shortly after midnight Tuesday. They rushed Burt to a hospital, where she later died of her injuries. Investigators say they don't know where the shot came from, and they're trying to identify who fired the shot and why.

Showers and embedded thunderstorms will increase and spread northeast across much of East Texas, North Louisiana, and Southern Arkansas today as a series of upper-level disturbances move northeast. Expect these showers and embedded storms to gradually diminish this evening before additional redevelopment occurs late tonight over Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana and gradually expands northeast into Deep East Texas and Northcentral Louisiana before daybreak Thursday. Given the very moist air mass in place, locally gusty winds and heavy rainfall will be possible in the stronger storms, with the potential for minor flooding of low-lying, poor drainage areas, mainly over portions of Deep East Texas and Northcentral Louisiana.

Visitation for a beloved Jasper teacher and coach, Ayden Burt, 28, killed by a stray bullet in San Antonio, will be held Thursday at Jasper's Funeral Home. Funeral services are Friday at 11:00 am at First Methodist Church in Jasper. Burial is Friday at 4:00 pm at Harrison Armstrong Cemetery in Alto.
