My two previous consecutive columns in this Sunday column series, were devoted to tackling the question pertaining to whether Guyana should join the BRICS. So far they have focused on providing to readers an analytical narrative portraying the configuration and broad outlines of BRICS’ evolution from its very inception.
Introduction In today’s column, I continue to provide guidance on aiding the decision directed towards the appraisal of whether Guyana should seek membership of BRICS. Readers should recall that the driving force behind such considerations is the search, going forward, for greater multi-polar options for Guyana, especially in light of today’s exceptionally challenging international order. One in which energy security is at heightened risk, due to notable armed conflicts that are occurring, even as great power rivalries are being simultaneously heightened. This observation also holds true for my previous appraisal of Guyana’s OPEC membership.

Last week’s column concluded with the observation that, while the immediate and near-term crude oil outlook for Guyana remains uncertain, I firmly expect the country to rebound positively, over the medium to longer term, And, as we shall see, going forward, this timeline confirms to the already scheduled FPSOs project construction-based forecasts for full ramp-up of Guyana’s crude oil output around the early to mid-2030s.
