LIMA — One of the hardest decisions for families as parents age centers around when those parents should seek an assisted living environment rather than continuing to live independently at home. That decision was the topic of conversation at the Lima Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday at Milano Cafe.

KALIDA — The calendar may no longer read July 4, but for Putnam County seniors, there was still plenty of celebrating left to do.

LIMA — Representatives from area regional airports gathered Thursday at the Allen County Airport for a legislative briefing, providing an opportunity to not only learn more about how the Ohio General Assembly is approaching the state’s aviation industry but also to network to learn how to help these smaller, public-use airports grow and contribute to their local economies.

OTTAWA — It has been a question that residents in Putnam County’s Sewer Districts 1 and 2, as well as on the northern side of Pohl Road, have been considering for more than six months. On Thursday, more than 50 of those residents gathered at the Putnam County Event Center to discuss a proposed annexation of those areas into the village of Ottawa, a move that, if enacted, would affect 162 customers currently receiving sewer service through the county.

LIMA — The transaction between employer and employee, with one providing a labor or service in exchange for an agreed-upon level of compensation, is one of the foundational cornerstones of our current economic system. A report recently released by Columbus-based political think tank Policy Matters Ohio contends that, for some workers, that transaction is not going far enough to provide employees with a sustainable quality of life.

CRIDERSVILLE — Saturday’s heat and humidity did not stop spectators from lining Main Street in Cridersville to catch the Cridersville Fireman’s Jamboree Parade.

KENTON — The Ohio State University College of Food, Agriculture and Environmental Science Farm Science Review will take place Tuesday, Sept. 22 to Thursday, Sept. 24 at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center near London. The event will include 4,000 product lines from 600 commercial exhibitors to learn about the newest agricultural production practices.

WAPAKONETA — Driving through Wapakoneta, one might be forgiven for not noticing a well-maintained yet unassuming house at the corner of West Benton Street and Buchanan Street. The Ohio Historical Marker erected in front of the house sets the house at 601 W. Benton St. apart with a four-word title: “NEIL ARMSTRONG’S BOYHOOD HOME.”

SPRINGFIELD — Voters in Ohio’s Fourth Congressional District will have the opportunity in November to determine whether or not U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, should continue in the position he has occupied since 2007. Conversely, two candidates will be attempting to end his time in Washington, D.C.
