Neighbors rolled into Westmoreland Park by the carload on Saturday, May 16th, taking advantage of the long‑running Sellwood Moreland Improvement League (SMILE) Neighborhood Clean‑up in the park's south parking lot.

The Sellwood‑based nonprofit that took over and now operates the former Sellwood Community Center is preparing to bring another long‑quiet public building back into use – this time, five miles north in Laurelhurst Park.

Southeast Portland's beloved short-season Portland Pickles Baseball Club – now well-known throughout the greater metropolitan area – kicked off its 2026 season on a clear but chilly Friday evening, May 29, in Lents Park's Charles B. Walker Stadium. Fans packed the stands to welcome back affordable high-energy summer baseball.

The Multnomah County Fair quietly reached a major milestone, this past Memorial Day weekend – as thousands of visitors streamed into historic, nonprofit Oaks Amusement Park for the 120th edition of this community tradition. Over the course off three days, May 23 through 25, families filled the Fair area of the amusement park, packed into cultural performances, and once again were able to enjoy the Fair's hallmark “Creative Living Exhibition”.

Overcast skies gave way to clearing sunshine as the Woodstock Farmers Market opened its 2026 season on Sunday, June 7. The cool morning didn't discourage eager shoppers; from the opening bell the market took off at near light speed, with neighbors arriving on foot, by bicycle, and in cars to snap up fresh vegetables, hot foods, and other specialty items from more than 30 vendors.

The purpose of a “ground-breaking” ceremony is to kick off the construction at a place where land has been cleared for it – but it doesn't have to happen that way.

The Sellwood Pool, at the south end of Sellwood Park on S.E. 7th Avenue, opened for the 2026 summer season on Thursday, June 18th, giving neighbors a close‑to‑home spot for fitness and cool family fun. This is the oldest outdoor public swimming pool in Portland – and it's still the place to be, on a hot summer day.

On weekday late mornings and early afternoons this June, lane closures, flaggers, and the buzz of chainsaws in the tall corridor of Oak and other trees, caused frequent traffic delays on a stretch of S.E. McLoughlin Boulevard from Harold to Tacoma Streets, as TriMet‑hired crews trimmed back roadside trees on the east side of the highway to help prevent storm‑damaged branches from falling onto the MAX tracks to the east.

The third annual “Everything Under the Sun Parade” filled Westmoreland and Sellwood with color, music, and hand‑made art, on Saturday afternoon, June 13 – as hundreds of neighbors marched from Llewellyn Elementary School southwestward to “The Shack” in Sellwood Park, for that building's opening day of the season.

A two‑vehicle crash on S.E. Powell Boulevard at 56th Avenue on Friday morning, June 5, left one driver dead, and shut down a busy stretch of the state highway during the morning commute, while Portland Police Bureau (PPB) investigators documented the scene.
