Local teams showcased remarkable resilience, achieving top placements despite challenging weather conditions at the Class C and A State Track Meet. On Friday, May 28, in Laurel, the teams wilted in the extreme heat as temperatures were in the mid-90s. However, on Saturday, the rain moved in, so athletes had to compete not only against each other but in the wind and rain. The meet was held up from around 2:30 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. on Saturday afternoon because of lightning. The meet did not finish on Saturday until about 8 p.m.

Now that the regular rodeo season is over for high school students in Montana, the top cowboys and cowgirls are scheduled to compete at the Montana High School Rodeo Association Finals Rodeo. The event is scheduled for June 8-13 at the Majestic Valley Arena in Kalispell. Contestants will compete in 16 events for year-end championships and the opportunity to represent Montana at the National High School Rodeo Finals in Lincoln Neb., July 19-25.

It has been a roller coaster ride so far for the young American Legion Redbird baseball team. They finished their first month of games with a 4-7 win-loss record.

The Lewistown Soccer Club is hosting the Montana Classic Cup for U13 to U19 teams this weekend, June 13-14.

The Fergus High School softball team was well represented on this year’s Northeast all-state and first team all-conference teams. Seniors Kiera Southard, Averi Sparks and Anna Elam earned first team all-conference honors as well as all-state honors. Sophomore Britta Sparks earned first team all-conference honors.

The annual six-man all-star football game took place at Hoffman Field in Custer on Friday evening, June 5. According to Brandon Gondeiro, six-player League President and game organizer, “our committee has divided the squads hoping to create the best game possible.”
