According to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), a holdover wildfire from the 2023 season has reignited in the Donnie Creek area. The BCWS says the fire is located northwest of Nig Creek and approximately three hectares in size and is currently listed as ‘out of control.' The suspected cause is believed to be lightning, according to the BCWS. A statement on BCWS's website says they are taking the monitored response to the wildfire. This means an immediate response has not occurred, and they are observing the fire. The fire might be allowed to burn to achieve ecological or resource management objectives and is used for remote fires that do not threaten values such as infrastructure. In June 2023, the provincial government reported the fires in the Donnie Creek area totalled 534,388 hectares, by far the largest in B.C.‘s history. This is a modal window.
