A scattering of afternoon storms are expected through midweek, but by the weekend, rain chances will fade as extreme heat takes over.

After today, daily rain coverage will decrease while temperatures climb, making it harder to escape the summertime heat by the weekend. Meanwhile, Erin could become the first hurricane of the 2025 season as it continues its westward track across the Atlantic.

It's going to be a sizzlin' weekend, with highs in the mid-90s and heat index values near 108° each afternoon. A Heat Advisory will be in effect today—take shade breaks, drink plenty of water, and watch for signs of heat illness.

After Friday's storms brought some relief, Saturday turns the heat up once again. A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Capital Region with highs back in the mid-90s today. Meanwhile in the Atlantic Ocean, Hurricane Erin is quickly intensifying after becoming the first hurricane of the season on Friday.

The next week features classic August weather — sizzling heat, sticky humidity, and just enough storms to tease some relief. While most days stay dry, keep an eye out for afternoon downpours.

The new workweek brings the same Louisiana summertime heat! Expect hot days with a scattering of storms each day. Storms will become for numerous by the end of the week as a weak front moves across the south East United States.
