It's the start of a crucial week for a lot of foreigners in Sweden, especially those 100,000 people waiting for a decision on their citizenship application.

Today the bill on stricter rules for citizenship – and any proposed amendments including transitional rules – is set to be finalised, before it goes before parliament tomorrow.

On April 29th, Swedish MPs will have a choice. They can vote in favour of transitional rules for citizenship, or condemn many of the 100,000 in the queue to a rejection. They must choose the former, writes The Local's Editor Emma Löfgren.

The Swedish opposition is calling for a revote on attaching transitional rules to the citizenship reforms, after the Sweden Democrats controversially blocked its majority.
