The Flin Flon area has its first forest fire of the season, started by a lightning strike about 16 kilometres east-north-east of town.

People living in the cabin area of Sourdough Bay near Flin Flon have had to evacuate their homes due to a forest fire, the first major blaze of the season.

Two more communities have been evacuated and Manitoba Highway 10 has been closed due to a growing forest fire.

The fire burning between Cranberry Portage and Flin Flon raged on Tuesday, but more and more resources are being used to hold it at bay.
