Was there ever any doubt? Soothing the souls of San Jose Sharks fans everywhere, Mike Grier and company have selected Ivar Stenberg as the second overall pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. A forward, Stenberg played in the Swedish Hockey League last season, an 18-year-old playing against a bunch of men and still putting up points. He managed to have 33 points in 43 games and took home the Rookie of the Year trophy at the end of the season.

The San Jose Sharks have locked in a right-shot defenseman to hopefully carry the team through in the short-term until 2026 first-round draft picks Keaton Verhoeff and Ryan Lin are ready to make the transition to the NHL. The Sharks announced on July 1 the team signed Jacob Trouba to a four-year deal worth $33 million. The deal comes with an annual cap hit of $8.25 million.

In a bit of work that seemed to develop out of thin air, General Manager Mike Grier traded restricted free agent Shakir Mukhamadullin and 2025 draft pick (124th overall) Zachary Sharp to the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Darnell Nurse.
