A small plane carrying multiple people crashed on a remote cape in Southwest Alaska on Thursday. As of the evening of Aug. 20, it was still not clear whether any of the occupants survived.

The civilian-contracted aircraft crashed at the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport, roughly 450 miles west of Anchorage.

The plane was chartered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to fly from Anchorage to Cape Newenham.

According to a charging document, Emmonak-based troopers responded to a disturbance in the steam bath on the night of Aug. 14 to find 38-year-old Christopher Horn with a knife in his chest and 37-year-old Anita Hootch deceased.
