Six years after the explosion in the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020, which killed more than 220 people and devastated entire neighborhoods, the call for justice continues to rise from the grief of survivors and victims' families. Pope Leo XIV met with relatives of victims during his Apostolic journey to Lebanon, visiting the port for a moment of silent prayer. Economic losses from the blast were estimated at between 10 and 15 billion US dollars, with hundreds of thousands of people displaced and homes and buildings destroyed.
