New York Jets great Mark Gastineau has a book out called Leaving the 99 for the one and he took the time to sit down JetNation.com as he and his wife JoAnn touched on a variety of subjects.

One of the more curious developments this past offseason was the league’s lack of interest in free agent cornerback Nahshon Wright before the Jets came along. The former Chicago Bear made the pro bowl in 2025 after intercepting five passes, taking one back for a touchdown while racking up 80 tackles. That type of production from a player at a premium position would usually lead to a huge pay day. For Wright, that wasn’t the case.

Jets fans wondering how running back Braelon Allen was coming along after suffering a season-ending injury last season finally got an answer when he met with the press the other day. Speaking in front of the Jets beat, Allen revealed the fact that he has now bulked up to a whopping 250 pounds.

Give credit to Jets GM Darren Mougey for continuing to lock up his quality young players by signing center Joe Tippmann to a four-year extension. The deal will pay Tippmann up to $62 million with half of that guaranteed.

Fresh off the heels of a New York Knicks world championship, their first on over fifty years, Jets fans are asking once again; “When is it our turn? When do we get to see our team win a ring?”.

And then there were none; the Jets and rookie defensive tackle Darrell Jackson have come to terms on a four-year deal as the fourth round draft choice out of Florida State is the final Jets rookie to get a contract done.

When the Jets traded for Geno Smith this offseason, it was obviously an effort to bring in a quarterback who had had some degree of success in recent years as the Jets have gone through one failed quarterback experiment after another. But Smith is being lauded for more than just his play. It’s his leadership and mere presence that has impressed many of his coaches and teammates.

It’s only June, so Jets head coach Aaron Glenn doesn’t have to make any snap decisions regarding his depth chart just yet, but when that time does come, expect rookie cornerback D’Angelo Ponds to make Glenn’s life difficult in the best way possible.

Before the start of team OTA’s and minicamp about a month ago, we asked if Jets wide receiver AD Mitchell could be a breakout player on offense for Gang Green. It’s pretty safe to say at this point that if he continues doing what he’s done up to this point in the team’s offseason program, the answer should be yes.
