USS Laboon (DDG-58) shot down a Houthi-launched drone over the Red Sea Saturday morning local time, U.S. Central Command announced via social media site X. Laboon, which transited the Suez Canal on Dec. 18, has now shot down five Houthi unmanned aerial vehicles. On Dec. 23, Laboon shot down four drones, USNI News previously reported. Laboon is currently assigned to the U.S. 5th Fleet. The Central Command statement does not say what the Houthi drones were targetting. BETHESDA, Md. – The Navy’s newest medical ship will be named after Bethesda, the Maryland home of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro officially announced Monday. The future USNS Bethesda (T-EMS-1) is the lead ship in the Bethesda-class Expeditionary Medical Ship class. The expeditionary medical ships are meant to be able to help stabilize and treat patients over vast distances, a key feature of Navy Medicine’s future in the Indo-Pacific region. ARLINGTON, Va. – Warfighting, warfighters and the foundation upon they are built on are the priorities Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti will focus as the top officer in the Navy. USS Carney (DDG-64) and USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51) shot down between four and six Iranian-launched ballistic missiles, a senior military official told reporters Sunday. Both ships were in the Mediterranean. Carney most recently made a port visit to Palermo, Sicily, Italy, on April 10. Arleigh Burke is forward deployed to Rota, Spain. NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — A comprehensive talent realignment initiative that sought to address personnel shortages in the Coast Guard saved about 1,500 billets, a top personnel officer said. The Coast Guard was short 2,500 billets, Rear Adm. Russell Dash, commander of the personnel service center, told the audience last week at Sea Air Space 2024.
