The National Weather Service made significant changes to the warning process after the April 27 Superoutbreak

Monday is a First Warning Impact Day. This means that you should remain aware and the weather may be disruptive enough to cause changes to your normal daily routine.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance in the Gulf, though tropical development is considered unlikely. Even so, the system is expected to pull deep tropical moisture northward, increasing the potential for heavy rainfall and flash flooding across Alabama from Friday through at least Sunday, with some risk continuing into early next week.

The National Hurricane Center has tagged an area of interest over Mexico near the Gulf as Invest 90-L that could become the Atlantic’s first tropical depression or named storm by Wednesday.

Whether this system becomes a full-fledged tropical cyclone or not, it will bring Alabama a round of very heavy rainfall and the threat of severe storms from Thursday evening through Friday.
