Hot Springs Village resident Craig McKeand was born in Fort Riley, Kansas and later moved to several locations. He attended high school in the Bay Area where he participated in track and field. After graduating in 1979 he attended Fresno State University for a year, got interested in construction, earning a bachelor’s degree in that area while also doing framing of houses during the summers.
Hot Springs Village resident Steve Dose grew up in Iowa, played baseball in high school, that is until he blew out his arm. “This was before Tommy John surgery,” he explained. After high school graduation he went to college and worked at a Phillips 66 gas station as overnight manager. “I had school in the morning, got some sleep then worked at the gas station. It didn’t take long until I knew I didn’t want to do that, so I dropped out of school but kept the job,” said Dose.

Hot Springs Village is now approximately 55 years old and lately has been growing rather rapidly. You’ve probably noticed it on DeSoto Boulevard, particularly at some of the main intersections. For many years, when pulling up to the stop sign at DeSoto and Calella Road, there may have been a car in front of you, maybe 2. Nowadays it is not unusual to have 6 to 8 cars in line.
