The woman was jogging on the path near Olbrich Park at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when a man approached her from behind and slapped her buttocks, police spokesperson Walter Jackson said in a statement.

Beloit police reported that they arrested a 16-year-old for the shooting after searching two homes in Janesville last Thursday.

Speed and alcohol were not considered factors in the crash, which sent the other driver to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities reported.

Chief Shon Barnes said in his blog that two men were reported to be shooting at each other.

The woman, who was a passenger in the van involved in the crash, was taken to a hospital after the crash and died early Thursday morning, authorities said.

The callers reported hearing cars leave the area and when officers arrived, they searched the property and common areas of buildings on the property and found no disturbance and no one with injuries, Fryer said.

The man who was arrested is on parole for his role in a 2019 shooting, and was out on cash bail in a separate 2022 weapons violation, police said.

Inattentive driving appears to be the primary cause of the crash, which is under investigation, and citations for the driver are pending, Schaffer said.
