The NDP The Pas-Kameesak Constituency held an election to select its candidate for this upcoming by-election. Three strong, viable nominees came forward and after a second round of voting, Jennifer Flett was elected as the NDP Candidate for The Pas-Kameesak.
The news of the decision to postpone this year's NorthWest Round-up and Exhibition was not an easy one and it sparked some diversity amongst the community. Some people felt that the event was just what was needed to get the community back on its feet. Others felt completely overwhelmed by the destruction and damage the flood created, along with the process of cleaning up and restoring things to normal.
A phased reopening of the Tri Com Recycling Centre is underway, with curbside collection expected to resume by mid-August 2026. Milan Manu, the Centre's new Recycling Manager, has been leading the effort to restore and improve recycling services for residents throughout the tri-community.
Many of the local parks within the Town of Swan River have had severe impacts in the aftermath of the recent flooding. For safety reasons, the town has closed a few of the parks due to flood damage.
The Arts for Manitoba Indigenous Youth Choir headed to Italy earlier this year to perform in the 29th Alta Pusteria International Choir Festival from June 10 to 14, 2026. This water movement is a call to educate and urge those living near the Saskatchewan River Delta to resist the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation project, in an effort to protect the delta.
Every summer, there is a campaign launched for people to be responsible and diligent in the effort of preventing Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) from taking up residence in Manitoba lakes and waterways. The most common and concerning AIS is zebra mussels; however, other invasive species can create havoc in waterways.
