New raised medians are preventing northbound traffic from turning into the Big Shark Gift Shop, and owner Tim Pace says that’s hurting business.

Currently, Chuluota Road is a two-lane road between Colonial Drive and Lake Pickett Road.

Alan Johnsrud, who lives off Narcoossee Road, contacted Traffic Inbox about the issue.

The project would widen Florida’s Turnpike from Partin Settlement Road to U.S. 192, increasing the road from four lanes to eight lanes.

The proposal, which is in the study phase and is not yet funded, would include a raised median, bike and pedestrian shared-use paths, two roundabouts

Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is planning the Orlando South Ultimate Interchange, a project that would add direct-connect ramps between the Turnpike and State Road 528 and make improvements to nearby surface streets.

The gap is between a southern segment of International Drive and the main portion of I-Drive near State Road 417.

The city hired an engineering and consulting firm last month to determine how to elevate the road, which, according to state data, sees more than 8,000 drivers each day.

Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise expanded the toll road from State Road 50 to Hancock Road.

The proposal includes a new road that would connect Partin Settlement Road to U.S. 192 and Neptune Road.
