Dave finally got Siri AI in the new beta of iPadOS. He gives us some examples of the great, good, and things that need to be worked on and his overall opinion so far of how Siri is working. We also talk about Apple Intelligence and how it works across apps. Dave gives us a good show this week!

Tim Cook announced pretty significant price increases to Apple’s hardware line this week. The increases came because of component shortages that have been happening for the past few months. Apple is moving its Hide My Email feature to its own subdomain, which means that businesses can block all attempts to sign-up for a service by blocking the new subdomain. Seems odd Apple would do this. Dave and I also chat about AI and what could happen with Apple Music.

On this week’s show we talk about the passing of Om Malik, a wonderful man and a friend to many. Dave has some thoughts on the impact of the recent price hikes for Apple hardware and whta it could mean for future products. We still don’t know what willhappen if you replace Siri with Claude in iOS 27, so I asked Claude his understanding. Not as good as I had hoped. There is a Hide My Email bug in Apple software was alerted about last year that allows people to see your real icloud.com email address, but Apple has yet to fix it. For a company that preachers on how important privacy and security is, you would think they’d be all over this. Maybe they’ll get to it next year.

Dave recently bought an M5 MacBook Air before the price hikes took effect. That gives him three MacBook Airs and he talks about the differences he’s found. Dave also has the most recent OS betas installed on several of his devices and we discuss his experiences so far. Everyone knows how expensive it is to live in San Francisco, but things have take a crazy turn in the city that is changing the housing market.

OpenAI is planning to release a new hardware device that will be a movable, screenless speaker built as an AI companion. OpenAI is also fending off a lawsuit from Apple accusing former employees, who now work for OpenAI, of stealing Apple’s trade secrets. AI is also revamping Apple’s plans for how it’s going to release its next set of chips for its devices. AI is demanding more power for every generation of chips. New York has become the first state to impose an AI Data Center ban, citing enormous power usage as one reason.

It’s been quite a while since Dave changed the strings on his guitar (and even longer for me), so we take a minute to talk about how much we forgot and what’s still in our minds. Since installing iOS 27, my favorite app is Apple’s built in Weather app. The updates may seem small, but if you use it a lot, it’s an incredible upgrade. This is how Apple should update apps–it’s not just about adding 100 new features, it’s about making those features work better for the user. Apple just finished a round of hardware price increases and now the company is increasing pricing on its subscription too. I would rather pay after seeing if the software is going to get any better.

Dave found a new site, that is about 25 years old, that has shown him a lot about learning guitar. We talk about the different priorities we have when it comes to learning the instrument. A new beta of iOS 27 came out, and it fixed some of the issues we brought up last week on the show. Apple introduced a new leasing program that is better than I thought it would be.

Dave mentioned on the podcast a year ago how great it would be if you could tell Siri to take a picture. Guess what you can do with iOS 27 Beta? You got it! It’s getting close to the introduction of Apple’s first foldable iPhone. This will be John Ternus’ first introduction and keynote as Apple’s CEO. This is definitely going to be interesting to watch.
