The UK broke its June temperature record three times this week, peaking at a provisional 37.3C. This exceptional heatwave brought health, travel, water, electricity and pollution concerns, along with dramatic thunderstorms.

This week is warming up, reaching the high 20sC and possibly passing 30C by the weekend with little rain in the south. But first, a wet and windy spell for Wednesday night, sounding lively for northern parts.

Extreme heat watch for World Cup football. Fresher conditions for Trent Bridge as the heatwave headed off to the Austrian Grand Prix. Wimbledon enjoys more civilised temperatures for a few days.
