CADILLAC—Veterans Serving Veterans, a nonprofit based in Cadillac is reporting that approximately $300 worth of community-donated cans and bottles were stolen from their property more than a week ago in the early morning hours.

Cadillac — Four Winns, a boat manufacturing leader in Cadillac for more than 50 years, is shutting down its facility, leading to hundreds of layoffs in Cadillac.

Four Winns has been manufacturing boats in Cadillac since 1975. The facility produced more than 2,300 boats in 2022, but that number significantly dropped to 474 in 2023. Rec Boat Holdings reported nearly $30 million in operating losses over the past two years, exacerbated by impacts from ongoing Middle East conflicts that have increased petroleum costs.
Heidi Hall, daughter of Charlie, described the news as devastating for her family and the affected employees. Hall shared that the reality of the closure is still setting in for her.
The Planning Commission will post a survey online as early as Wednesday, asking residents to weigh in on the city’s needs, values and vision. The survey will be available on the city’s website and Facebook for people of Cadillac and surrounding communities.
