LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - As expected it was a hot and sunny Father's Day on the South Plains. In Lubbock the high temperature soared to 106 degrees, just two degrees short of the record on this date in 2023. Most of the region also reported afternoon maximum temperatures above 100 degrees. The cooler areas, at or below 100 degrees, were located in the northeast areas of the region.

The South Plains region north of the Advisory have had slightly lower afternoon temps that have remained in the low to mid-90s.

Moving into the last week of June, the heat will extend into next weekend, but we should see a slight dip in afternoon temperatures the next few days.

As upper-level high pressure settles this week rain chances of storms will remain low until Friday. There may be some isolated storms each afternoon and evening, but coverage will be limited.

The heat will continue through the end of this month as afternoon maximum temperatures will remain around the 100-degree mark. That level of heat will dominate the coming week for all of the South Plains.
