LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Showers and thunderstorms finally returned to the South Plains this afternoon. Most of the welcome rain has been in the central and western communities. While amounts haven't been heavy for everyone, it has been welcomed and helped to bring temperatures below 100 degrees.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Another hot day for the South Plains with a high of 98 degrees in Lubbock, the average should be 90 degrees. At least we didn't threaten the record of 104 degrees in another very dry and hot year 2011.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Another hot day on the South Plains; once again daytime temperatures have climbed to the 90s. The afternoon maximum was 96 on this first day of September. The average temperature for the beginning of September is 89 degrees.
