"They broke open the contract and redid it," Finch said. "That doesn't often happen and I'm extremely grateful for that."

The Wolves are short on point guards and could use another perimeter defender and shooter.

Connelly swung and missed on a couple of attempts to get into the top seven picks but then found a willing partner in San Antonio at No. 8.

One of Connelly's biggest strengths is his network of contacts throughout the league.

If Anderson does go elsewhere, the Wolves can only replace him with a veteran minimum contract.

With the way free agency has gone so far, Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr. may not have the learning curve many rookies get.

"Going into next season, we’ve got to play faster," Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said.

Shannon finished with 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting, grabbed three rebounds and blocked two shots in Minnesota's 81-74 victory.

The Wolves do not need Dillingham to be an All-Star right away, but they do need him to be a factor on a very good team.
